MISSION STATEMENT

The Preston University Library must provide services that enable users to access to the most current information regardless of the physical location of the item, or materials format. The Preston University Library's mission statement is as follows:

The staff of the Preston University Library supports the instructional, research, and service programs of the University faculty, staff, students, and university community.

In order to fulfill this mission, the Preston University Library will select, acquire, organize, and provide access to recorded information regardless of format. This information may be located at various sites both nationally and internationally to ensure and facilitate the access to information resources.

The Preston University Library and the University as a whole share a common vision in that both entities aspire to meet the accreditation standard for both the state and national levels. The following elements are central to our vision:

  • The Preston University Library will provide access to a wide array of information and quality educational services in a timely and efficient manner for all users both on and off campus. The Library will be responsive to the users' informational needs, at the moment of the users' request.

  • The Preston University Library collection will provide excellent support for the instructional, research, and public service programs provided by the University. The materials will be selected, acquired, and organized in a manner which ensures they may be easily accessible to all library users. The Preston University Library will attempt to forge alliances/cooperatives with other libraries located within the geographical region.

  • The Preston University Library will seek the enthusiastic support from students, faculty, university administration, Board of Directors, and the members of the University community, resulting in full funding for the acquisition of the necessary resources that will enable the University and University Library to fulfill the shared mission.

  • The policy decisions for the University Library will be made by an active partnership which may include members of the university administration, faculty, staff, and student population.

  • The Preston University Library facilities will be designed to encourage excellent services, serious research, and will provide comfortable study areas for its users. In addition, the facility will provide effective, efficient, and safe work areas and equipment for library staff and users.

  • The facility designs will strive to be sensitive to the growth and the environmental needs of both the traditional collections and the electronic information delivery system(s).

  • The Preston University Library will have the appropriate number of staff members (professional & para-professional) with the requisite skills, training, and resources to provide excellent library services.
